MECHANICS

So, there are a few differences between Rosenblum Hall and the average murdergame! This page is going to detail the Mechanics and Features that you can expect to see in addition to the standard murdergame structure (and the AU structure, which is detailed on other pages).

INVESTIGATIONS

Rosenblum Hall is going to, naturally, feature a lot of investigating! What gothic horror would be complete without wandering down a dark hallway with a candle in hand, right? Named areas on the map are available for open investigation in-thread, and any other kind of investigation, well… run that by the mods first. Investigations will turn up things like school lore, useful tools, and more! However, there’s an element of mystery that’s tough to accomplish with everything in investigations being public, which brings us to our big experiment!

Certain investigations, on their conclusion, will result in a discovery sent directly to your character’s dw mailbox rather than posted publicly. As of now, the way this is going to be implemented is that the messages will be reposted in inves threads at the end of the game, so everyone does still have access to them, but! I will also note that I’m building in a ripcord here: if this causes ooc trouble or significant delays during trials, I reserve the right to move back to the traditional above-the-board system!

Investigations have one other big change, which is that any investigation can lead to a Haunting What’s a Haunting? Well…

HAUNTINGS

So you might have noticed some questions about IC and OOC fears and limits on the application! These are for use in Hauntings, a semi-random event that can strike at any time! Well. That can strike in response to toplevels or during investigations, anyway. Hauntings will generally not interrupt extant threads between two or more characters, as it’s way scarier to be haunted when you’re alone anyway!

Hauntings will take a few forms, and if there are any you are uncomfortable with please note as much on your app, but generally can be:
1. A physical haunting (objects moving/changing, may escalate to attempted violence in later weeks)
2. A hallucinatory haunting (the character is transported into another time or place, at least audiovisually! These will get more involved/complete in later weeks)
3. A social haunting (this one is a secret tool that will help us later)

Please note that I will be doing everything within my power to make sure that Hauntings do not go anywhere oocly undesired, so please know that I’ll be communicating! Also, if you don’t get haunted right away or the haunting you get isn’t as intense as you hoped, please don’t take it personally, I am just one mod with a helper or two trying to pace out a horror game.

REGAINS

So, you may have noticed that there is a regain system but no personal regains on your app! I’m not going to go into that just yet, but there is a reason for that that will come up, but to start at least, regains will be for fun little treats and things you can use in threads if you so choose! After all, your stuff is back at the main dorms until the snowstorm ends!

ACTIVITY CHECK

In addition to the standard murdergame expectation of weekly AC (two threads with at least fifteen comments from you between them), we will be asking for a brief mental check-in about your character as well - how they're feeling, who they're crushing on, who they want to crush, that kind of thing! It'll be screened, don't worry, so you can be honest with us. Also please know this doesn't have to be an essay or anything, it can just be a paragraph or a couple shitposts.
